The mobile space is a brave new world for online advertisers. As the mobile advertising ecosystem matures, advertisements on mobile phones and mobile web pages will become more and more prevalent.
The latest development in mobile advertising is Google’s announcement that they are know displaying AdWords text and image ads on the iPhone, T-Mobile G1, and other smartphones with full-HTML mobile web browsers.
AdWords advertisers will now be given the option to have their desktop-formatted ads shown in mobile web browsers. The option allows advertisers to target mobile phones with mobile-specific campaigns, complete with separate performance reporting, without having to create mobile-formatted ads. Google takes care of reformatting the AdWords ads so you don’t have to.
The mobile ads will show up only in the mobile version of Google’s search portal, which has been optimized for viewing in devices like the iPhone, iPhone 3G and T-Mobile G1. Currently running AdWords campaigns will default to displaying ads on desktops, laptops, iPhone and G1.
