Last we saw, the Verizon-bound LG VX9600‘s UI had been leaked for all the web to see. The UI looked to be finger-friendly enough to make good use of the LG VX9600’s touchscreen base module. But, we had yet to lay eyes on the actual LG VX9600 hardware.
Today, we not only get our first look at the LG VX9600’s modular design, but we also learn that Verizon will be launching the handset as the Verizon LG VX9600 “Versa” (as in “versatile,” get it?). The Verizon LG Versa will apparently launch with a bundled detachable QWERTY keyboard that resembles a gutted electronic dictionary.
The premise behind the LG VX9600 Versa is that the main touchscreen module can be mated with a presumably extensive collection of add-on modules. From QWERTY keyboards to gaming modules to external speakers, the LG Versa can change its mobile-persona with a clip of a new module.
The LG VX9600 Versa’s modular design allows it to scurry about all slim and unburdened by extra hardware like keyboards or speaker. But, when it comes time to get down to business, the LG Versa will happily don its QWERTY keyboard and head into the boardroom. Then, when the going gets fun, the LG Versa can get to some gaming with the optional gaming-pad module.
Could modular mobile design really succeed in the LG Versa? Time will tell.
Look for the LG VX9600 Versa to make an appearance at Mobile World Congress in just a few short weeks!
