Last we had heard of Windows Mobile 7, it was going to be released right about, oh, now, but I guess that got shunted down the line since we’re more likely looking at WinMo 6.5 for the 2009 Mobile World Congress in Barcelona. Motorola CEO Sanjay Jha, however, let slip that version 7 will be coming out in at least a year’s time.
As you know, Windows 6 series is available in 2009 and as compared to Android, we believe in 2009 Android is more competitive; more of our effort and focus in 2009 is going to Android, but in 2010 when Windows 7 will become available, we will then participate in a more focused way in Windows Mobile 7 in 2010.
This came out during Motorola’s quarterly earnings conference call, which, as we’ve heard, was not so hot. Regardless, Motorola is clearly still looking at Windows Mobile for the long term, and not just phasing it out over the next little while in favour of Android.
