CTIA is just around the corner. And you know what that means – product launches galore! Opera has announced that it will be bringing its new Opera Mobile 9.7 mobile browser to CTIA to showcase the browser-maker’s Opera Turbo compression technology and their Presto 2.2 rendering engine on mobile phones. The new Opera Mobile 9.7 browser is expected to support AJAX and Flash content as part of Opera’s goal to deliver a full-featured desktop-like browsing experience on a cellphone.
“Opera Mobile 9.7 with Opera Turbo gives our business customers to ability to bring a rich Internet browsing experience to their mobile device and to the end-user without having to allocate new resources and development costs,” says Rod Hamlin, Senior Vice President for the Americas for Opera Software.
Opera has grown in popularity over the past few years as the mobile browser of choice for many smartphone users. That’s because the Opera Mobile browsers aren’t just fast, they’re accurate. The trick to Opera’s speedy yet reliable mobile browser is its use of server-acceleration. Rather than relying on poky mobile processors to render webpages, Opera off-loads the data-crunching and page-rendering tasks to proxy-servers around the world. The fully-rendered webpage is then compressed using Opera Turbo compression technology and sent to a waiting mobile phone. The mobile user only sees the fully-rendered webpage delivered to his mobile screen in a fraction of the time it would take to view the webpage using a traditional mobile browser.
And, with Opera Mobile 9.7, Opera will bring Flash support to the mobile space using Flash Lite technology. Opera Mobile 9.7 also boasts a 100% score in Acid3 web standards compliance testing and will support Google Gears.
Opera Mobile 9.7 is sure to be one powerful mobile browser, we can’t wait to get our hands on it!
