Wow, that took long enough. There were rumblings awhile back that a Facebook app for Android was in the works, and I think we’re all glad those rumours finally panned out. The app comes with a home screen widget, contact live folder, custom notifications, photo uploading through the camera, gallery, and browser, and all of the poking, wall-posting and item-liking that you can shake a stick at. I’m playing with the app a little bit on the G1 now, and I’m finding some definite setbacks that need to be addressed. For one, you can’t do a straight-up friend lookup from within the app, even from the Find key – you can only click through on links from your news feed or pull up phone numbers from the live folder. Secondly, opening pictures launches the browser, rather than pulling the pictures into the app itself. Yeah, you can click-to-call or -email, but by the looks of things, we’ll need a few patches to bring the app properly up to speed. Shaking the phone to update the friend feed is kind of neat, in any case. Facebook for Android is available now in the Market – go ahead and get downloading!
