If you thought that comment from Global Equities Research analyst Trip Chowdhry, claiming that Motorola would bring 10 new Android devices to market in the next six to 10 months, was more fantastic than realistic, take a seat. Microsoft is now saying that the world will welcome 30 new smartphones running Windows Mobile 6.5 before year’s end. Benjamin Tan, senior director, GCR Mobile Team Unit at Microsoft China says that more than 15 smartphone makers are preparing their own WinMo 6.5 handsets for launch later this year.
We’ll apparently see these new smartphones from the likes of HTC, Acer, Samsung, LG, Sony Ericsson and Toshiba. That’s really not surprising, seeing as how these manufacturers have been getting down with Windows Mobile for some time. In fact, HTC is expected to launch an incredibly sexy and powerful Windows Mobile device in the HTC Leo (Pro3/Pro.Three) later this year. The Leo’s 4.3-inch capacitance touchscreen, 5-megapixel camera and 1Ghz Snapdragon processor is sure to make the HTC Pro3 the WinMo smartphone to look for this holiday season.
Android has been gaining traction recently, but with no less than 30 new Windows Phones hitting market this year, the little green robot would do well to watch its back.
