The MP3 was invented by a bunch of engineers working at Fraunhofer. You probably have hundreds, if not thousands of MP3 files on your computer right now. Some say they ruined the music industry, but the people who speak such things are pissed because they don’t get to fly around in their own private jet anymore. Today Fraunhofer has announced something different, the “Audio Communication Engine“. In plain English it’s a new system for your operator to install that will hopefully give you better call quality. It’s meant for LTE networks since it’s probably going to require a lot of bandwidth, and it’s 100% IP based. I’d tell you more, but the email I got from their PR lady is sparse on details.
