A lot happened at MWC 2010 – we should know, we had the coverage to prove it – and this announcement was a pretty hot one! Novatel Wireless announced that it successfully completed a Dual Carrier High Speed Packet Access (DC HSPA+) call capable of 42 Mbps with a leading infrastructure provider on a Multicarrier Node B at Mobile World Congress this week.
This is on top of Novatel Wireless’ recent announcement of the first successful data transmission over DC HSPA+ with peak throughput of 40 Mbps on a call box. For those of you not in the know, DC HSPA+ is an evolution of HSPA which is making the case for rolling out an LTE network look quite tricky in the short to medium term!
I literally can’t wait for the Operators in the UK to boost their capacity, and then also upgrade their network bandwidth – it seems the technology is mature enough for 3.75G, and we have an upgrade path in place to keep evolving HSPA – so let’s get the wheels in motion!
