MocoSpace is quietly doing very well in the mobile social networking game, as the company said it has just surpassed 11 million members.
The service is like most other social networks because you can make new friends, share pictures and videos and microblog, but it is much more focuses on a mobile experience. The company primarily has a younger demographic, and it is reportedly generating 3 billion page views per month.
I think the mobile social networking game is going to be huge because it offers all the benefits of the desktop experience with the increased intimacy that a phone offers. The major problem I see for companies like MocoSpace or Loopt is that the big boys could crush them once they go after this space aggressively. Facebook is already seeing nearly 25% of its users checking in from a phone and that is only expected to grow as it pushes to the developing markets. Google is also integrating mobile into all of its products from now on, as it believes smartphones will make desktops irrelevant in a few years.
