Filed under “huge waste of research and development costs”, today we have a press release saying that NTT DOCOMO, Renesas, Fujitsu, NEC, Panasonic Mobile Communications and Sharp Corporation are going to combine forces to create a mobile operating system that will be compatible with both Symbian, and Linux. It’s due to come out by March 2012, doesn’t have a name yet, will be offered to any mobile handset manufacturer who asks, and get this, the 6 companies are even considering making it compatible with Android. Why are they doing this?
“The new platform will offer improved processing speeds for high-quality video and enhanced 3D graphics processing for advanced mobile multimedia functions.”
