It’s a slow news day, as you’re about to see from this story…
Novatel Wireless announced that it has secured registered trademark of the U.S. Patent and Trademark Office for the MiFi brand. In other words, they are committed to their intelligent hotspot “thing.” 🙂
Here what they say about it (from the press release):
The MiFi brand of hardware and software products and services represents the industry’s first intelligent mobile hotspot, a new category of mobile broadband that lets users put their world of content, services and connectivity in the palm of their hand. Unlike existing router solutions that require an external broadband modem and serve only to provide connectivity, the MiFi platform creates a personal cloud of high-speed Internet connectivity that can be easily shared between multiple users and up to five Wi-Fi devices such as laptops, cameras, gaming devices and multimedia players. The MiFi Intelligent Mobile Hotspot serves as an intelligent, open platform capable of hosting advanced software applications and flexible enough to address the continued evolution of mobile broadband.
And that’s about all we have at the moment. As I said it at the beginning – expect more MiFi devices in the future. 😉
