Sonic The Hedgehog 4 Confirmed for iPhone; Delayed Until Late 2010

Earlier this year, SEGA announced they’ll be releasing the Sonic The Hedgehog 4 across multiple gaming platforms (Xbox 360, Playstation 3, Wii) this Summer, with speculation of it landing on the iPhone.  SEGA confirmed today that they will indeed be bringing Sonic The Hedgehog 4 to the iPhone as well.

As great as this news is, it looks like Sonic The Hedgehog 4 will be missing its previously announced launch time of Summer 2010 to the “latter half of this year”. The reason for the delay is to offer SEGA’s development team more time to fine-tune and balance the game to live up to its immense expectations by jaded Sonic fans the world over.

Sonic The Hedgehog 4 is set to bring back Sonic to his 16-bit glory days by unleashing him on a 2D platform, instead of the recent onslaught of not so great 3D platformer titles.  The character models in Sonic the Hedgehog 4 will have 3D character models, instead of the old-school 2D sprites we all grew up with.

Until SEGA delivers Sonic The Hedgehog 4, be sure to catch the newly released trailer of the game in action. I just hope the iPhone & iPad version of the game looks this good!
