Get your EVO 4G early at RadioShack

If you absolutely cannot wait to get your hands on the drool-worthy EVO 4G, the Shack has your back. RadioShack will be opening its 1,600 stores as early as 6 a.m. this Friday to let pre-order customers get their hands on the first U.S. phone with 4G capabilities.

One of the cool things about pre-ordering from RadioShack is that you also receive a $20 gift certificate for accessories. The retailer is upping to ante too, as those first-day buyers who arrive early will also get 15% off accessories. So, now you can pick up a skin or media dock on the cheap.

So, what’s all the fuss about? Well, if you’ve check out our thorough review, you’d know that this is one bad-ass device. It sports a ridiculously-large 4.3-inch capacitive touchscreen display, has a 1 GHz Snapdragon processor, 8-megapixel camera, all the connectivity goodies you’d expect from a smartphone of this class, and it runs Android 2.1 with HTC’s Sense UI.

What the verdict? According to our editor-in-chief Will Park:

EVO’s huge screen just oozes sex appeal to any gadget geek – at the very least, it will draw the attention of just about anyone you happen to be near when you start playing with EVO. It’s packed with every high-end smartphone feature (super-fast data capabilities, GPS, sensors, awesome camera) you could want right now, and EVO will even let you pimp out its fast internet connection to other devices over WiFi.

The launch date is just a few short days away and I’d strongly suggest getting it from a place that eats the mail-in rebate like Best Buy or Wal-Mart. I’ve purchased my last few phones from Best Buy and it’s a pretty good experience, as the staff is knowledgeable and there is a wide selection of devices on all four carriers. You’ll still have to take your handset into a carrier-branded store if you don’t buy Best Buy’s special insurance on top but that’s a minor quibble, I guess.
