Social mapping app for mobile, Waze, just got better thanks to the Twitter and Facebook integration, effectively bringing the service to a whole new level.
Twitter users can send tweets using the #wazelive hashtag to tell the world where they’re stuck in the traffic. Waze on its end picks up that information to show that user on a map with a small “t” displayed on top of the car. This works two ways, allowing you to respond or comment on a friend’s tweet.
Facebook integration works in a similar way, but instead of seeing the letter “t” on cars, your FB buddies will be riding cars with “f” on them. Waze can even alert you when there are people you know driving around. Of course, you can also change your Facebook status right from the Waze app, if you desire to do so.
Finally there’s the updated iPhone client that sings along background processes introduced with the iOS 4. This means you’ll be able to get turn-by-turn voice directions even while using some other app. Best of all, Waze acts a smart app, killing its own process when detects you’re no longer using it to avoid needless data and battery consumption.
In addition to the iPhone, Waze is also available for Android, Windows Mobile, BlackBerry and Symbian devices and you can grab the latest version by visiting m.waze.com/download from your mobile phone.
