The Verizon HTC Droid Incredible, if you can get your hands on it, is one nice device. But it lacks on feature that many smartphones are now shipping with, and that’s recording video in 720p. That may all change soon, as it looks like HD video recording and Android 2.2 OS (Froyo) could be on its way to the Incredible via an OTA update.
According to a user from the AndroidForums, he had received a OTA update that enabled 720p HD video recording, as well as the 3G Mobile Hotspot. From the looks of the pictures, it looks pretty legit, but we have to wonder why no one else has been blessed with the 720p-enabling Android 2.2 Froyo update. Droid-Life seems to confirm everything as the real deal, and was nice enough to show off the new boot animation that will come with this OTA. Seems like a small, yet pretty decent update if you ask me.
HD video recording isn’t that big a feature for me, but having the option is always a good thing. It does indeed look like Incredible users will be receiving HD video recording – the EVO 4G or the Incredible would be the first get their Froyo on, but how long we’ll have to wait is the pressing question. Surely, Verizon needs to strip a few features from Froyo, like the portable hotspot feature that’s free on Froyo, and that’s going to take some time. HTC needs to get their Sense UI up and running on Froyo smoothly before anything happens, and that will take more time.
We have no time line as to when this OTA will officially hit Droid Incredibles, but it’ll likely be out sometime soon. Not sure if this is a good enough reason to get the Incredible over the Droid X, but the HTC device may have started to look a little more appealing for those with ‘the small hands’.
