Arcade classic R-Type coming to iPhone

If you’ve been playing games since the 80s, either at home or at the local arcade, then R-Type is a game you might be familiar with.  It looks like millions of iPhone owners are soon going to be receiving a refresher course as EA Mobile has announced they’re bringing the timeless classic to the iPhone soon.

R-Type for iPhone allows players to pilot the futuristic fighter R-9a “Arrowhead” to attack wave after wave of enemies in its classic side-scrolling shooter style that we all have come to know and love.  Of course, what’s an R-Type game without power ups and ship upgrades, which of course this version will have as well.  The game will feature eight unique levels with eight different bosses and will be accessible by using three different control schemes: tilt, touch, and virtual D-Pad.

EA Mobile is promising to keep R-Type for iPhone 100% true to the original game which is a huge plus in my book, I just hope its graphics get a slight tweaking to take advantage of the iPhone 4’s Retina Display.
