We touched upon this yesterday but felt it warranted some more time because we don’t want you to freak out about your new Motorola Droid X. Verizon said the screen issues that are making its way around the Interwebs are not widespread, so don’t trip, potato chip.
“Verizon Wireless and Motorola are aware of a very small number of Droid X units that have experienced a flickering or banding display,” said Verizon spokesperson Brenda Raney. “Motorola has resolved the issue and is continuing to ship the phones. Any consumer who experiences a flickering or banding display should contact Motorola customer support center or Verizon Wireless.”
I tend to take Verizon at its word with this one because the forums and our comments indicate this isn’t a massive issue. That’s a good thing because the massive 4.3-inch display on the Motorola Droid X is a major draw for the new Android handset. The 854 x 480 screen isn’t going to wow you like the Retina Display on the Apple iPhone 4 but that extra space is great for watching YouTube videos, surfing the web and typing on the excellent virtual keyboard.
During the introductory press conference of the Motorola Droid X, CEO Sanjay Jha said consumers overwhelmingly prefer a larger screen than a smaller one with a higher resolution. The Droid X has sold out in most stores and online, so he might be on to something. Of course, the smaller screen on the Apple iPhone 4 has helped it sell more than three million units in less than a month, so who knows how big a factor screen resolution really is.
You wonderful readers sounded off in the last post about how your X performed, so please do it again in the comments. In particular, I want to know if you returned your unit and what that experience was like.
