Siano Mobile Silicon, supplier of mobile digital TV receiver chips we’ve talked about for quite a few times in the past, unveiled a new product for the emerging mobile TV market in Latin America – SMS2130, supporting the ISDB-T mobile technology that is also known as ISDB-T “1-Seg.”
The chip introduces new levels of optimizations in performance and cost that suit the specific needs of the Latin American consumer market.
Initially, the SMS2130 is launching in Brazil but very soon in Argentina, Chile, and other countries in the region.
At the moment, mobile TV services are available in more than 40 cities in Brazil, covering a population of more than 70 million. The services are being offered for free, with plans to introduce advanced data and interactive services in 2011.
Availability wise, select customers can already grab chip samples and Siano reported that it is engaged with a few customers developing consumer electronic products as well as mobile phones using the SMS2130.
Finally, it’s worth adding that SMS2130 is only the first member in a complete new family of products for the LATAM market…
