Just when we talked about updated iPhone app, Evernote released a new version of its Android client. This time, though, we’re talking about major enhancements and some cool new features.
First of all there’s the Evernote Widget that allows you to search for or start creating notes right from the phone’s homescreen. As you know, this is something iPhone users can’t do, so if you own the Android device make sure to brag about it in front of Apple fanboys. On the other hand, Evernote for Android still lacks full offline note storage (though it’s coming in the near future). To be fair, there is note caching support, but that’s only for notes you’ve already opened — you cannot sync all of your notes and carry them around on your Android smartphone, at least not at the moment.
Another “Android only” feature is “Send to Evernote” that allows you to easily send stuff (i.e. images, URLs, tweets, etc.) from many of your favorite applications directly into a new note.
Finally, there’s the pinch and zoom support within notes so you can get a closer look at some snapshot, zoom in, swipe around, then zoom out. This feature is available on phones running Android 2.1 and later.
In addition to the new features mentioned above, the new release also fixes many of the known bugs and annoyances… To sum things up – you do want to update and by now you probably already did. If you don’t have Evernote installed on your smartphone, simply search for it in the Android Market and take it from there. You won’t regret for a second! 🙂
