Miso is a service that allows you to check-in to the TV shows that you’re watching, and see what your friends are watching. You can also earn points and badges along the way. Yeah, you guessed it, it’s basically Foursquare for TV.
Miso has been on the iPhone and iPad for some time now, but it was only yesterday that the application was launched for the Android operating system. While check-in apps like Foursquare and Gowalla promote an active lifestyle by going to place to place to check it, Miso’s approach is different. Miso promotes staying in, and watching TV. Hardly what other services are doing, but they just work the same way.
Still, it is a pretty cool concept if you’re a TV fan. If you feel that telling your girlfriend you just watched the season premiere of Weeds season 6 isn’t enough, you can tell the world. While I think I’ll definitely try this out, I’m not a huge fan on check-in service applications. But Miso should definitely be something to talk about with friends. If you ever wanted to TV-stalk someone, then this may be the application for you. Another thing you can do with the app that you’ll find in other check-in apps is that you can leave comments when you check-in. In a way comments for Miso seems more useful than that of Foursquare. With TV, you’re getting the same experience, a TV episode will be the same no matter who watches it. This is not the case for venues you visit with the other check-in services.
So whether you’re a TV addict, or just need another application to check out, Miso may be a winner. It may not be promoting running around town and checking into different venues, but I’ve yet to see an application that has been able to glorify couch potatoes like Miso does.
