Juniper Research: Surging mobile data traffic to drive new 4G LTE operator investments

As we all know, LTE networks are set to bring increased data speeds for mobile users. However, not everyone is super-eager to experience the blazing speeds on their mobile phones and/or other connected devices like netbooks and tablets. As a matter of fact, according to new Juniper Research’s report, only 1 in every 20 subscribers will benefit from the network upgrades.

The research company predicts there will be more than 300 million LTE mobile broadband subscribers globally by 2015, most of which will sign-up from the year 2012 and onwards.

Unsurprisingly, developed nations of North America and Western Europe will lead the “LTE revolution” and together with the Far East and China region, they will account for 90% of the market by 2015.

As we are talking about major investments by the operators around the world, the industry is looking for answers regarding new “business models that will replace existing data plans.” I’m not sure what that exactly means and we can only hope they won’t kill the unlimited data plans…

As usual, Juniper’s website is the place to go to get more information about the report.
