The Oatmeal Empathizes with Smartphone Apps Buyers

You’ve gotta love how irrational we can be sometimes, as The Oatmeal poignantly illustrates. We’ll pay outrageous amounts for our toys and gadgets, yet when it comes to making good use of them (i.e. paying for high quality apps which make our phones more interesting and/or worthwhile), we’re outraged by their costs! Why?

For starters, if you’re like me, you’ll buy an app and it ends up just sitting on your phone untouched after about a week. That’s the amount of time it takes before a slick new application loses its novelty and appeal. Of the 100+ apps I’ve downloaded or purchased in my lifetime, I’d say I really only use about 8-10 on a daily basis. So I think, “Do I really want to pay for this game if I won’t be playing it two days from now?”
