Boost Mobile, part of Sprint’s pre-paid division, is now offering an unlimited plan for just $2 a day. This means that for the cost of a small coffee at a boutique cafe, you’ll get unlimited calls, texts, picture messages, e-mail access and calls to 411. This is probably a good deal if you find yourself traveling to the U.S. and need a phone for a few days or just a short handful or weeks. Otherwise, you’re better off grabbing Boost Mobile’s monthly unlimited plan for $50 a month.
Boost Mobile says:
With Daily Unlimited there are no extra fees, contracts or credit checks. A daily $2 subscription charge is automatically deducted from the customer’s Boost account each day after midnight (based on customer’s time zone), regardless of usage, unless the customer cancels the subscription. In order to keep service active, the total daily payment amount must be successfully prepaid each day.
The upside is with the prepaid plan, there are no credit checks or contracts and you know exactly what you’re paying for–no overages or fees. The problem is that if you just use your phone to make one phone call or send a text message or two for the day, your account will still be charged $2 unless you cancel your subscription. If you keep this up monthly, you’ll be paying upwards of $60 per month without web access whereas the $50 plan will get you everything unlimited (unless you’re using a BlackBerry).
