Those who thought that Dell, with their Streak and Aero, were done in the mobile space are sorely mistaken. If you’ve kept up with Dell, you know that there are quite a few upcoming handsets and tablets coming our way. We finally got our first glimpse of one such device, the Looking Glass, a 7 inch Android tablet, in a new video that we just came across.
It looks like everyone has gotten the hint that a 7 inch tablet may indeed be the sweet spot when it comes to screen size for these types of devices. Seven inches is a good enough size to enjoy watching a movie, it’s lighter and more portable, and it’s easy to hold with just one hand. Though there will be many people who’ll likely want a larger screen for a tablet, I’d imagine we’ll see all the big players jump on the 7 inch display for their tablets at some point.
We first got word of the Looking Glass back in April, and were told to expect this tablet to hit AT&T retail stores sometime in November. We’re a little weary of believing this particular rumor as of right now. Still, we hope we’ll be able to see another decent tablet drop right in time for the holidays. The rumored specs of the tablet give it a 1.3 megapixel camera, WiFi b/g/n support, 4GB DDR2 RAM, 4GB of internal memory, an SD card slot that’s expandable up to 32GB, Bluetooth 3.0, and a 3G (AT&T) modem. We wouldn’t be surprised if this thing shipped with an NVIDIA Tegra2 dual-core processor and hopefully the rumored 480 X 800 screen resolution has been beefed up a bit too.
The Looking Glass is rumored to also come in larger sizes down the road, so Dell looks to be covering the small, the large, and in between when it comes to their tablets, which is good for the consumer. A better selection will help users pick the perfect size for them. We’re hoping that a smaller tablet doesn’t necessarily mean a lighter spec sheet, but anything is possible.
Whenever the tablet hits the streets, it better be ready to compete with the likes of the iPad, the Galaxy Tab, and whatever tablet that may ship within that time.
