Safari books onlineSafari Books Online updated its mobile web site with several key features, including sharing, categorizing, and usage analysis, earlier this week. For those not familiar with the service, Safari Online Books is an online bookshelf service that provides customers with online and mobile access to Safari’s vast catalog of books

The new and improved mobile website (m.safaribooksonline.com) now includes a new “Share This” feature that lets Safari subscribers share specific book titles and book pages with non-subscribers. An excellent feature for those who work in a team environment and want to share some of the resources available within Safari books online.

The mobile site has also been optimized for finding new content. No more slogging through long lists of titles as the mobile search interface now includes category-based search using product names, vendor names, and topic-related search terms. Last but not least, the mobile website now offers usage analysis for corporate training administrators who can optimize their Safari library offering by analysing the search terms and the content that their users are viewing.

In addition to the new sharing features and improved search, mobile users can also create notes, tag, and save content in custom folders. These latter features are available to users using a handset with a 320×480 display including the Palm Pre/Pre Plus, the iPhone, all Android devices running Android OS 2.1+, and all Blackberry devices running Blackberry OS 5.0+. It is also available on handsets with the Opera Mini browser 5.1 or Internet Explorer Mobile (Windows Mobile 6+).
