Today, Samsung made it official and announced that it is working on several handsets for the upcoming Windows Phone 7 launch. The Korean manufacturer upheld its dedication to Microsoft’s mobile platform and confirmed that Windows Phone 7 is an important part of Samsung’s smartphone portfolio. Samsung was light on the details and did not confirm any handset details, launch dates, or launch carriers for its upcoming Windows Phone handsets. Purposely noncommittal in this press release, the Korean company is trying to keep its name in the headlines without revealing too much of its upcoming plans.
Of course, I fell for it hook, line, and sinker and are happy to use this occasion to speculate about the Korean manufacturer’s upcoming smartphones. The two big players in Samsung’s lineup will be the Omnia 7 and the Cetus i917. The Omina 7 is a continuation of the popular Windows Mobile Omnia lineup and was recently spotted in the logs of DSL Reports’ mobile broadband speed test. It is also possible that the Omnia 7 is the consumer-friendly name for the i8700.
The Samsung Cetus has been spotted in wild, revealing its smooth black lines and Windows Phone UI.The Cetus is expected to include a 4-inch AMOLED touchscreen display, 5-megapixel camera, Wi-Fi 802.11n, Bluetooth 2.1, GPS, FM Radio, microSD expansion and AT&T-friendly 850/1900MHz 3G. The Cetus should land on AT&T in early November rocking some extra fancy packaging.
