AT&T BlackBerry Torch 9800 6.0.0.246 Update Offers Performance Improvements

AT&T and RIM have just released an update for the BlackBerry Torch 9800. OS 6.0.0.246 leaked a few weeks ago, but now it’s all officially official, available at blackberry.com/updates, in your Desktop Software after plugging in via USB, or on-device notification for OTA download over the next couple of weeks. What makes this update especially interesting is that RIM actually issued a changelog for it – not something one see regularly unless it’s a big milestone. Here’s what’s new in OS 6.0.0.246 for the BlackBerry Torch:

  • Browser – faster page loading and improved panning
  • User input – handled more efficiently, improved responsiveness after unlocking device
  • Applications – faster launching, exiting and switching
  • Home Screen – faster rendering and smoother transitions when switching between panes
  • Media – faster rendering of thumbnails in picture application
  • Email/Messaging – faster and smoother scrolling in message list and when reading email
  • Voice- Software improvements for improved audio quality

You could probably even get this OS on the Torch from other carriers if you find and delete the vendor.xml file from your computer. Have fun, and let us know if you spot any significant changes in this software.
