I know I’ve talked about them before, but any time Capcom comes up in my inbox, RSS feeds, or Twitter stream, I can’t help but sit up and take notice. The company has built some of the most legendary games of all time, and many of the games bring back very fond memories from my childhood.
Anyways, if you happened to miss the Capcom games sale in the App Store this past weekend, I’ve got a little more goodness to tell you about.
Capcom has announced that in November a new app will make its way to the App Store. Called ‘Capcom Arcade’, the new entry will features a whole whackload of wicked-awesome titles, including 1942, Ghouls ‘n Ghosts, Street Fighter II, and more. Win!
The folks over at IGN have posted a positive review of the app. The touch controls seemed to work just fine for them, however they were hoping for some online (multiplayer) action and leaderboards to make things a little more interesting. Capcom notes that those features are being worked on, so we should be able to look forward to that in the near future.
The interesting thing about Capcom Arcade will be the ‘coin-op’ format of it all. Rumor has it that the app will be a free download, however, the app will only give you three ‘tokens’ to try out some of the games. To ‘buy’ more time, just like in an arcade, you’ll have to insert your quarters… which means, you’ll have to purchase credits online from within the app. Interesting.
But I’m getting ahead of myself, the app isn’t even here yet! I just thought if you’re into retro-gaming like me, you’d want to keep this one on the radar. I’ve wasted (er, enjoyed!) many, many, MANY hours in front of the old tube TV playing Street Figher II… and wouldn’t you know it, at the moment I actually have a version of Ghouls ‘n Ghosts installed on my Wii. I finished the darn thing recently, how ’bout that!? 🙂
Stay tuned for more, can’t wait for this one to come out!
Sonic Boom!
