Last week, we had heard that the PayPal app for iPhone would be able to take pictures of checks and deposit them into your account; today, the new feature has been released, and is ripe for the picking in the App Store. The one snag is that it takes 15 days for the check to clear, which might be longer than what it would normally take for you to just swing by the bank, depending on your situation. On the plus side, there are no fees for using the service, just snap a pic and wait. On top of support for Bump and donations, the app is coming along really nicely.
If you’d rather be putting your checks into your own bank account rather than PayPal, the company that powered the new iPhone app feature have their own standalone product called DepositNow, which they’re pitching to banks. Maybe TD, Northwest, Citi, and other banks will consider picking up mobile check deposits into their apps too.
Download links to PayPal for iPhone and other mobile platforms are below – hopefully we’ll see this check-scanning business find its way to BlackBerry and Android at some point.
