Verizon: We’re Not Participating in Clearwire Auction

Clearwire has a ton of spectrum and is said to either be selling some of it or looking for equity partners. With the talk of spectrum auction, Verizon was named as a potential buyer, but the company is openly denying it. After all, it seems that Verizon already has big plans for its own LTE efforts with what spectrum it has.

Reuters reports:

“We’re not participating in the Clearwire auction,” said Nancy Stark, a spokeswoman for Verizon Wireless, a venture of Verizon Communications and Vodafone Group Plc.

That just about settles it. Of course, word was that Verizon, along with T-Mobile and AT&T, could have been a potential buyer at a spectrum auction which may not even take place any time soon – if at all. Clearwire did say that it plans on raising funding in a number of ways, with an auction as one potential method of doing so.
