ALK Technologies announced a new version of CoPilot Live for Android today. This latest version, CoPilot Live USA, is available in the Android Market and comes in at a super-low price tag of $4.99. CoPilot Live USA includes street-level maps for the USA and offers turn-by-turn navigation with 3D views and voice directions. Similar to it more expensive counterpart CoPilot Live North America, the US-only version downloads the map data to your handset upon install. On device maps are a much-needed feature for those who travel off the beaten path and encounter areas with poor or no cellular signal.

Similar to the iPhone version, the Android version includes predictive address matching, pre-installed points-of-interests, and ClearTurn, a realistic view that provides lane turn indicators and sign post information. Local search and weather forecasts are available from within the app when an internet connection is available. The app also includes 14-day free trial of ActiveTraffic, a navigation add-on that provides real-time traffic data and is available for $9.99 per year.

Yes, Google Maps in an excellent navigation tool and yes, it is available for free but it goes belly-up when your cellular data connection is lost. For US customers that drive in rural areas or just like the comfort of knowing that you navigation is not tied to your wireless signal, this latest version of CoPilot is an excellent alternative to Google Maps. With its $5 price tag, there really is no reason not to buy it.
