Mac plays nice with Windows Phone 7

Windows Phone 7, Mac play nice with new softwareIf you’re on a Mac and have been hesitant about buying a Windows Phone 7 because you’re worried it won’t play nice with your computer, you can rest assured that the Connector software will let you synch your multimedia content to your new Microsoft smartphone.

As you may know, Microsoft’s latest smartphone platform uses the Zune software to sync content with PC desktops or laptops. This is essentially the iTunes of Microsoft’s upcoming smartphone platform. The problem is that Zune isn’t available on the Mac but we knew there would be a way for Mac users to sync content.

“Windows Phone 7 Connector lets your syncronize your favorite music, videos, photos and podcasts from iTunes and iPhoto to your Windows Phone 7, so you can take your media with you wherever you go,” Microsoft said.

You can download the software with the “via” link below and the Connector program is free and in beta form. As indicated above, the Connector program will tie in to your iTunes content but I’m assuming that it will only work with your non-protected content.

It’s a much-needed move by Microsoft to try to appeal to as many users as possible but you have to wonder how many Mac users will use Microsoft’s upcoming platform. With word that Apple is now nearly 10% of the traditional computing market, it’s a prudent move, nonetheless.

I’d like to think that Microsoft has a credible shot being a strong player with Windows Phone 7, as it has a good (not great) platform, a solid line of handsets and a content delivery system which could possibly compete with iTunes. I doubt Zune will get as many users with associated credit cards as iTunes, but bringing this Connector software could be a good first step.

Any Mac users out there want to give this a go? Let us know in the comments.
