Let’s face it, the Dell Streak sorely needs some Froyo in its life and it’s certainly on its way, but when will it be in our hands? To sooth your anxiousness, StreakSmart managed to nab some pictures of the yet-to-be-released build for the 5-inch monster phone.
According to StreakSmart, the build is still in beta and still has some kinks to get ironed out before the official release. Aside from the few bugs, the build is nearly final in terms of functionality, which is a very good thing if Dell doesn’t want to piss off users who’ve been running on Android 1.6 for some time now.
The Streak running Android 2.2 Froyo has got put through its paces with some benchmarks of NeoCore and Linpack and the results were rather impressive. According to the benchmarks the Streak got up to 32.331 MFLOPS on LinPack and 34.5 FPS on NeoCore. The user compared the benchmarks to a custom ROM that they had been using on their Streak prior and – while the margin of the benchmarks weren’t large – you can still see a bit of a performance boost from having the Froyo update.
While we’re still waiting for the official Froyo update to drop for the Streak, we’re already thinking about when the micro-tablet will receive Gingerbread, as it’s all the rage now. We have little doubt that Dell’s first tablet will be able to support the next OS update of Android, but when is the real question. One possible delay for the Streak is that it’s running Dell’s Stage UI and – if you’ve been following along with Android updates – most devices with custom user interfaces tend to get updates at a slower rate than a regular stock Android device.
Here’s to hoping that the official release will be out and about in the near future for Streak users. We know you’ve been waiting for quite a while, but your Froyo time is comingsoon.
