Even with some of the Black Friday deals out there, Amazon can sometimes still offer a lower price than brick-and-mortar stores. With the new Amazon Price Check iPhone app, the online retailing giant is trying to give shoppers more options for checking out prices on the go.
The Amazon Price Check iPhone app is sort of diabolical because it enables users to scan in-store products with a bar-code scanner. Users can even snap pictures of products to compare prices and you can even use audible queries to find product comparisons. Of course, you can then sign in to your account and order the product you’re comparing.
“This app makes it incredibly easy to quickly compare prices on millions of items before making a purchase,” said Sam Hall, director of Amazon Mobile, in a prepared statement. “We’ve worked hard to have low prices at Amazon, and we like it when customers comparison shop so they know they’re getting a good deal. We hope this app will empower customers to shop with confidence this holiday and any other day.”
The Amazon Price Check iPhone app isn’t really that much different than the Amazon Mobile app, which also has a bar code scanner. I’ve said before that I think this is one of the coolest features I’ve seen in a long time – just use the price comparison feature this holiday season at Best Buy when you’re looking for HDMI cables and you’ll appreciate how much you can save.
The online retailing giant is making a bigger push for the mobile space and this latest app is the most aggressive against traditional retailers. The company said it has already processed more than $1 billion via mobile sales, so we can look forward to more apps for the iPad, iPhone, Android and other mobile platforms.
