We have already heard a bit about the LG Star but now we have some more pictures of the Tegra 2-powered Android monster courtesy of the good folks at Phandroid.
The new pictures of the LG Star don’t reveal too much besides the shiny HDMI port but we’re very excited to get some hands-on time with this smartphone. As you’d expect from a Tegra 2 device, the LG Star is scoring high on multiple benchmark tests. While benchmarks don’t always tell the whole story, this Android device should have a ton of horsepower that should lead to a solid experience.
We had previously thought this would run stock Android but this picture shows a customized user interface from LG on top of Android 2.2 Froyo. I would hope that it will have Android 2.3 Gingerbread before it launches but you never know what can happen when you’re dealing with a custom UI.
The LG Star should also have a 4-inch display and an 8-megapixel camera which can record in full 1080p HD. That would make the HDMI port much more useful and it would outclass the current crop of phones like the iPhone 4 and Droid X, which can only record in 720p HD.
This superphone could also be a major boost for LG’s lineup, which has been lagging compared to the competition. The Optimus One has been selling well but it’s not going to wow many high-end users and don’t even get me started on the LG Ally for Verizon.
When can we see the LG Star? Well, I think we could see an introduction around CES in early January, with the release a few weeks after. Time may be an issue, as we know that Samsung is preparing an absolute beast of an Android smartphone with a dual core and 4.5-inch screen in the first half of 2011.
