Canadian music junkies will be pleased to read of this great news from the folks at Slacker Radio. Via CES the other day, Slacker has announced the expansion of their unlimited basic radio service to all Canadian listeners. Right on!
Previously, Slacker was offered as a 30-day trial only. When the trial was over, Canucks from coast to coast to coast had to cough up hard-earned money to continue service. With the basic service now available for free, Canadian iPhone, BlackBerry, Palm webOS, Android, Windows Mobile and Windows Phone 7 users can ALL get streaming radio via their devices… for free 24/7.
Jonathan Sasse, Senior VP for marketing at Slacker commented on the announcement:
“Turning Canada on to personal radio earlier this year was a giant milestone and the ability to expand the free Slacker Radio experience beyond the 30-day trial period is another exciting step forward…Whether it’s from the web or a smartphone, Slacker takes the work out of listening to your favorite music and discovering new artists wherever you want.”
I can’t blame you if you want to give Slacker a spin right now. But before you head over to the website for more info, I should mention that Slacker Radio Plus is the full-out ‘premium’ version of the app. The basic version does a very admirable job, but the ‘plus’ version adds station caching for mobile devices, removes all advertisements, allows for unlimited song skipping, requests, and much more. If you’re deep into the music and need more features, Slacker Radio Plus is a $3.99 monthly bill that you may want to consider (then again, the basic service should be solid enough for most!).
For all the details on Slacker Radio in Canada, head on over to the app store of your choice, or pay a visit to Slacker.com. Give it a spin and let me know what you think.
