Prisoners hack Playstations to charge up their cell phones

I love how inventive prisoners can get with such limited resources. When they aren’t busy playing Farmville on smuggled cell phones, they’re tweaking and hacking everyday items into shivs, shanks, files and cell phone chargers. Inmates at Addiewell prison in the UK are stealing computer mice and using their USB cables to plug into PlayStation and other gaming consoles, then rewiring the other end so that it would be compatible with their mobile phone charging ports.

According to DailyRecord:

A source at the West Lothian jail said: “Bosses couldn’t work out why so many mice were going missing.

“But they found a couple plugged in to PlayStations during cell searches and the penny dropped.

“The USB connection fits perfectly into a port of the games consoles and the wires are manipulated so they can charge mobile handsets.”

Given enough time, those crafty prisoners will come up with anything. Then again, this particular prison sounds more like a resort:

It has been dubbed the “Addisson” after the Radisson luxury hotel chain because convicts have en-suite facilities and flat screen TVs in their cells.

I guess those Office Space style prisons really do exist.
