When I was in junior-high, I played the trumpet… Horribly. While I enjoy music as much as the next guy, playing it (whether it was the trumpet, the piano or the guitar) never really added up to much for me. I was decent… but that’s where it ended. Thankfully, now that the old instruments have all found their way to a dusty home in the closet, I can rekindle memories of past mediocrity with apps like iTrump for iPhone.
Dubbed as the ‘2-inch Trumpet’, iTrump is actually a lot of fun. Open it up, and you’re off to the races. Simply touch or blow into the mic to play a note. Tap on the ‘valve pads’ to set the pitch and raise and lower the bell (the part of the trumpet the sound comes out of 😛 ) to increase or decrease volume. If you get a kick out of apps like this (I’m thinking Ocarina here), it may be some good fun to have in your arsenal.
Inside you’ll also find a song book. Open it and the app will show you have to play along… it’s actually quite easy. The app comes with seven songs:
- Theme from 2001
- Aura Lee with piano
- Air (on a G string) with guitar
- Greensleeves with accordion
- Guantanmera with bass, bongos, guitar and drums
- Ride of the Valkyries with orchestra
- Twinkle Twinkle Little Star with piano
Once you master these, you can go ahead and purchase more songs as you see fit.
iTrump is on sale right now for $1.99, and I have no idea when the sale is over… So, if this one interests you even a little bit, you may want to jump on the sale price before it’s too late. Go ahead and play a little ‘Greensleeves’ for me now, would ya? Enjoy!
