Last week, AT&T announced via Facebook that the Android 2.2 update for the Aria was going to be released very soon. As expected, the Froyo download link went live late on Friday and Aria owners can now enjoy an official taste of Android 2.2. For those who have not updated, you can grab the appropriate 165MB ROM file on HTC’s website. The executable should step you through the process of updating your Android phone.
The Aria is a strong entry-level Android handset for AT&T that debuted last June. It includes a 3.2? (480×320) HVGA display, 5-megapixel camera with zoom and video capture, 3G connectivity, WiFi, Bluetooth, and 512 MB of flash memory, microSD expansion(up to 32 GB). It launched with Android 2.1 and HTC’s Sense UI for Android.
Aria owners have been patiently waiting for Android 2.2 and should be happy that the update finally arrived and was not shelved by HTC. Of course, some Aria owners may have been enjoying Android 2.2 for several months now as an unfinished ROM for the Aria leaked back in October. While HTC has not confirmed the update path for this handset, this boost to Android 2.2 will probably the one and only update for this entry-level offering.
The Aria is still available from AT&T for a mere penny if you or anyone you know is still interested in this handset. We also took a close look at the ANdroid handset in August of last year. You can check out our detailed review here.
