Microsoft is resuming the February Windows Phone update for Samsung handsets. If you recall, the software patch was pulled after reports of failed upgrades and bricked handsets started making the rounds. Microsoft’s Windows Phone team confirmed in a blog post that a small percentage of handsets, most of them made by Samsung, were having difficulty with the patch. The release was a preparation for the NoDo release slated to land in early March. It is this larger update in March that contains the highly-anticipated copy and paste feature.
According to Microsoft’s Windows Phone blog, the Redmond company will begin rolling out the software patch to Samsung phones starting today. Other phone models will be able to gain access to this upgrade starting today as well. The software patch will be distributed gradually and owners will receive a message on their handset when it is available for download.
Microsoft did not detail the nature of the problems it discovered and fixed in the original patch. The company quietly updated its blog post with the following information:
Starting today, we plan to resume rolling out the February update to Samsung phones. Meanwhile, we’re continuing to dispatch the update to other Windows Phone models. As has been the case, the software patch is being sent out on a rolling schedule. You’ll see a message on your phone when it’s available.
During the past week the engineering team has pinpointed and fixed problems that were preventing a small percentage of Windows Phones from installing the February software patch. We apologize again for the delay and continue looking for ways to improve the update process.
Let’s hope everything goes smoothly this time and all Windows Phone handsets will be ready and rearing for the big copy and paste update coming down the pike soon.
