As soon as the iPad 2 was confirmed to have dual cameras, you knew there would be a deluge of applications using these cameras in an entertaining way. The first such application to hit the App Store is AR Magic Mirror, a facial augmented reality application for the iPad 2. The application uses the front and rear-facing camera to display images on the iPad screen. Users can then add wacky hairstyles, glasses and other accessories to the image on the screen in real-time. The app can also use facial recognition to identify a user and add enhancements to user’s video image. Though it is a simple face-tracking application in it current iteration, future versions could be developed into a sophisticated makeover tool or an avatar creator that uses your own images.
The application is expected to be free from Apple App Store. You can check out the promotional video below and read the full press release on the next page.
