We’ve seen wireless iTunes syncing solutions before, but rarely do you find one that’s easy to use, doesn’t require a desktop media player of its own, and offers a free price point all in one go. Music WithMe does just that, and with a simple setup, you can sync your iTunes library right to your Android phone in a snap. The application used to run $14.99 in the Android Market, but has since relaunched with no price tag at all.
To get started, download the application (Android 2.1+ only) from the Android Market and the Desktop Helper (works with both Windows and Mac) from the Music WithMe website. You’ll have to sign in to your Facebook account with both the application and the Desktop Helper, but that’s it! From there you can open the application and choose what music you’d like to sync to your phone. The application doesn’t show you the progress being made on the songs being uploaded, but once the song has been successfully uploaded, it will show in the application.
You can check the progress through the Desktop Helper, which shows your active and completed uploads. It’s not the most elegant of ways to go about seeing the progress, but hopefully these small issues will be ironed out with future updates. You’ll also need to keep the helper running at all times, unfortunately, but it’s easy enough to set it to auto-start when you fire up your desktop computer.
Syncing music is done via WiFi or your carrier’s data network, giving you access to your music while you’re on the go. WithMe also offers up Social and Mobile sharing options, which lets you share a playlist or song to your Facebook friends or Twitter followers easily. The app also offers up free music you can listen to, like record label samplers and songs directly from the artist themselves.
There may be a couple lingering snafus here and there, but for the most part the experience with this app is solid. Music WithMe is full of promise, and we’re looking forward to the enhancements that will be made in the future.
