ll, it looks like we nailed it, the T-Mobile G2x will be the LG Optimus 2X and it will land “later this spring.” This is a good piece of hardware even if the carrier that’s introducing it may go bye-bye in a few months. The T-Mobile G2x is the LG Optimus 2X that we reviewed a few short months ago with a foreign unit. Of course, we tested a European-tailored unit and the T-Mobile G2x will have radios which will let you have access to the T-Mobile 4G network with HSPA+.
I’m sure that T-Mobile isn’t going to much around with the device too much but it will likely come with some of the carrier’s software. Still, the LG Optimus 2X was a pretty bad-ass device thanks to its NVIDIA Tegra 2 chip, so I’m thinking that Android fans will be happy with this Froyo device.
The device will come with the Tegra Zone to help you find apps and games that are optimized for this chip. You’re also looking at a high-quality 4-inch display and all the connectivity options you’d expect from a phone like this.
The T-Mobile G2x will also come with a 1.3-megapixel front-facing camera and an 8-megapixel camera that is actually quite good. I used this thing as my primary shooter during our trip to Barcelona for Mobile World Congress 2011 and I was so happy with some shots, I printed them out and framed them. For real.
The carrier said that this device will be coming later this Spring at T-Mobile stores for an unspecified price but there was no word on pricing, although we expect the standard $199 on a new contract will suffice.
Of course, that two-year deal may mean lots of different things depending on how the AT&T-Mobile merger shakes out.
