Japan’s NTT DoCoMo recently launched this great commercial for the Touch Wood SH-08C that involved a giant xylophone in the woods, and a ball with some momentum. Every time the ball strikes a lower step, it adds a note to “Jesu, Joy of Man’s Desiring,” by Bach. It’s a unique, peaceful piece of marketing, ripe with possibilities for tactless headlines.
The Touch Wood SH-08C will be a limited-edition handset, with only 15,000 units being sold by NTT DoCoMo. As you might expect, it’s big on being eco-friendly; packaging is made from paper using wood “thinning”, which I imagine is more conducive to regrowth than full-blown clear cutting. Some revenue from sales will also be donated to a conservation society called moreTrees. Specs-wise, it has a 3.4-inch WCGA Aquos display, a 5 megapixel camera
The software also has some eco-friendly additions, like a pedometer and a smart battery management system to save power.
If you’re in Japan and thinking about picking one up, more info on the phone can be found here. For the rest of y’all, enjoy the video.
