Isis, a joint venture between AT&T, T-Mobile and Verizon, will kick off its mobile payment service in Salt Lake City, Utah. The Utah Transit authority will be the first provider to adopt the NFC-based mobile payment service. Isis is also working with the Salt Lake Chamber and Salt Lake City merchants to bring NFC payments to the wider community. The pilot program will launch in 2012 and will expand beyond the Transit Authority to allow Salt Lake City residents buy goods and services using their mobile phones.
Isis is looking beyond Salt Lake City and will bring its mobile payment service to locations nationwide. The service will combine the resource of retailers, banks, payment services and mobile carriers to build a nationwide infrastructure that lets mobile phone owners make payments for goods and services using their NFC-enabled phone. The full press release with details on the Salt Lake pilot is available on the next page.
