iPhone 5 launching at the end of June this year?

There is currently a lot of speculation as to when the iPhone 5, the next iteration of the Apple smartphone, will be launching. When Apple announced its WWDC event for this year, it seemed like the focus would be primarily on software. This led many to speculate, incorrectly, I believe, that the next Apple smartphone wouldn’t become available until fall this year. Just because the focus is on Mac OS X and iOS, it doesn’t mean the event will be sans iPhone. I’m not asserting that there will be a hardware announcement, but the lack of mention in the WWDC announcement doesn’t mean a lack of mention at the event itself.

A Korean news site is now saying that the iPhone 5 will be launched some time during the fourth week of June, or the end of that month.

iPhone 5, the next model of iPhone 4, will be released on the coming 4th week of June. In the midst of the iPhone 5 postponement rumors, Apple has confirmed that iPhone 5 will be released as planned and it will be released simultaneously in Korea through SK Telecom and KT.

The rumor states that the iPhone 5 may even get its own event outside of WWDC, which makes sense given all the chatter about the lack of hardware announcements at the event.

Only time will tell when the next iPhone will be released, naturally, but based on the most recent crop of rumors, we’re looking at two possible time frames: late June or some time in the Fall.
