Almost missed this one… Barnes & Noble is entering the “next phase” of its NOOK Developer program by introducing a new suite of tools and services to help select developers make apps for the NOOK Color eReading platform.
The keyword here is “select,” meaning not everyone can join the race and we’re not sure what makes for a “qualified third-party developer.” If you do, however, find yourself in that group, you will be able to:
- Access to “Developer Mode” services, which enable Android Debugging Bridge (ADB) access on NOOK Color to facilitate application development and debugging
- Interact with other developers and NOOK App Developer technical experts
- Get early access to development tools, APIs, resources and services
Additionally, presuming you want to offer paid apps, Barnes & Noble will get you 70% of the app price a la Apple.
A major update to the NOOK Color firmware will be released this Spring, allowing customers the first new apps along with email and other requested features…
