Best Buy makes a huge push into mobile retail stores

Best Buy has been one of my favorite places to buy smartphones and accessories. You want to know why? Pricing and options – that is, smartphones are often priced less at Best Buy and mail-in rebates are unheard of. It’s also usually a painless procedure, and in my experience, Best Buy sales associates don’t try to push accessory packs in your face. So I’m glad to hear that the mega-retailer is opening up more mobile stores, along with expanding its web presence.

According to a report by Reuters:

Also, Best Buy is now aiming for 600 to 800 Best Buy Mobile stand-alone stores in the United States within five years, even as its cuts U.S. “big box” store square footage by 10 percent over the next three to five years.

The news came after many investors raised concerns about the retailer’s huge overhead costs and oversized stores at a time when many shoppers go online to buy gadgets.

The mobile industry is expanding rapidly as the adoption of devices like smartphones and tablets skyrocket, so it makes sense that Best Buy is wanting to capitalize on it by building more dedicated mobile stores. It also needs to recover from three quarters of sales declines and a forecast for declines this quarter.
