If you’re a bona fide hipster then a core requirement to your ensemble these days, besides the skinny jeans, fixie bike, and MacBook Pro, is a Moleskine notebook that you use to write down your random musings on life to kill time between freelance graphic design projects. There are also other reasons Moleskines are popular. First and foremost is the build quality; you can’t get the same feeling from a marble composition book or Five Star Mead notebook that you can from a Moleskine. Second, the history that’s attached to the brand, with dubious marketing claims that state Vincent Van Gogh and Pablo Picasso used Moleskines. And third, there’s a growing group of people who thanks to internet have achieved some slight form of fame, or have at least radically altered their lifestyle, but are now starting to realize that life offline is just as important, or even more important, than time spent in front of a screen. For the folks who don’t agree with that last sentiment, then there’s an iPhone App for you.
That’s right, the folks who make Moleskine notebooks have come out with an iPhone and iPad App in an attempt to further push their brand in the faces of the Apple wielding masses that live in San Francisco, New York, and other cities where a plaid shirt centric wardrobe defines your lifestyle choice. Unlike the expensive physical product, the iOS App is free and it allows you to create notes that you can add images to, as well as freestyle drawings. Said notes can be put into categories, and if you want to share your notes then you can do so via email or to variou social networks.
What do we think of this app? It’s … useless. The whole point of buying a diary is to slow yourself down and get the thoughts in your head out onto paper. No distractions.
