AT&T has finally dished some more details on the availability of the Infuse 4G. The handset with the large screen will be coming May 15 and it will cost $199 with a new, two-year contract.
We first saw the Samsung Infuse 4G at CES as part of AT&T’s push into 4G push which includes the Atrix and the Inspire. The main thing about this latest device is the massive 4.5-inch Super AMOLED display.
We’ve seen this display on devices like the Droid Charge and it boasts a 50 percent boost in the brightness of the sub-pixels compared to the first generation of Super AMOLED screens found on the Galaxy S.
The Samsung Infuse 4G also sports a 1.2 GHz single-core Hummingbird processor which should be quick but some may be disappointed that it doesn’t have the same power as a dual-core chip. It should launch with Android 2.2 and the TouchWiz UI but let’s hope it won’t be too long before we see Android 2.3 Gingerbread.
Even with the massive screen, the Samsung Infuse 4G will be a slender device at 8.9 millimeters. The companies are saying that this is the thinnest 4G device out there and I don’t doubt it.
You’ll also have an 8-megapixel shooter which can record videos at 720p HD, a 1.2-megapixel front-facing camera and the WiFi, GPS and Bluetooth that’s expected in a device of this class. This one might actually challenge the Verizon’s 4G LTE network, as this will come with a 14.4 Mbps HSPA+ chip inside (oops) chip that’s capable of getting 21 Mbps download speeds. Nice.
It’s definitely going to be a nice device and we’ve secured our own unit and we’ll have a review, photos and multiple videos for you in a bit. If you can’t wait, feel free to check out our first look at AT&T’s new smartphone from CES.
Any of you tempted to get this handset?
